Chilling in the 2010's

Wrote about the Moonvisionaries some time back. Can't figure out why nobody wants to help them make a hit out of the track "Mr. Hollywood".

It sort of brings to mind a scene where the Pulp and Verve meet the 2010's to chill.

You can now download said track and two more their myspace site.

don't lock up crazy people

Isn't it a great thing, that all crazy people don't get locked up?

Thanks, JH, for pointing me in the direction of Gobble Gobble.

Kooped up.

Ran into old friend AL at a shushi bar. Told my initial company that AL impressed me greatly way back by correctly identifying the producer of albums he previously had not heard... Pretty impressive, even if AL is a producer himself and sits around all day tweaking knobs on his virtual mixing board.

(It turns out he can now also identify what microphone was used for a specific recording. According to himself, anyway.)

Anyway, I asked him if he had heard anthing interesting lately, and he pointed me in the direction of Koop - basically jazz mixed with hip-hop and dance (according to AllMusic).

Arcade Fire meet The National

Found this on NME: The Forms really sound like a cross between Arcade Fire and The National. I actually think I quite like this, although I would have been happier if they lost some of the violin.

Paint the war

Know nothing about this gang. Buddy PC sent over a link on spotify, lyrics sort of remind me of Nirvana.

First good, then bad!

Weezer are currently on tour. Not to support their latest album, but to play their first two. All the tracks, in order.

When Weezer released the Blue Album I remember loving everthing about the band and their music.

When they released their follow up Pinkerton I remember loving the whole album, every single track.

I remember one party when friend EH (who can be a tad anal at times) pointed out that since Pinkerton is such a great album, and harder than the debut, the debut is no longer any good. At least not good enough to listen to. And the fact is, I have  a hard time listening to tacks like Buddy Holly, but I still enjoy Pinkerton as a whole. The first chords of the first track of Pinkerton (Tired of sex) make a different statement about the band and their attitude.

Tired of Sex

Airship

The last time i liked a group who's name included the word "ship" I was young and temporarily confused. These guys probably never even heard of the Jeffersons...

Anyway, I'm pretty sure a tall chap I used to share a flat with will like this:

Favorite group nobody's ever heard of

Long ago, I one evening went down to one of my favorite bars and found three weird blokes from Finland on stage. PK, Asko and Espe from Utajarvi looked like they'd escaped from a conference held by the Arctic Amateur Radio, Chess and Trainspotting Organisation but if I remember correctly I was mesmerized from the first chord.

My three 22 Pistepirkko favorites:

Couldn't find a good version of the third track on YouTube so you'll have to make do with a Spotify link (sorry, friends over there....)

Dave's an idiot

Dave Grohl: drummer, singer, guitarist, writer.

The driving force behind the Foo Fighters who also has performed with among others Queens of the Stone Age, Killing Joke, Tenacious D, Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy, Slash and Juliette Lewis.

Oh yes, he also played drums in Nirvana. (Imagine having that way back at the end of your CV...)

He was just named this year's Godlike Genius by NME, and this is him explaining why he really is an idiot: (Click here)

Two favorites (written by Dave):

The right places

Just because I didn't hear anything really exciting last year doesn't mean nothing exciting happened. It just means I wasn't listening in the right places.

After wandering off my track I stumbled upon something that sounds like a cross between The Editors, Glasvegas and U2 anno 1984 (Unforgettable Fire) packaged in a multilayered soundscape that also brings Daniel Lanois' production to mind.

I give you the Athletics:

Spiderman is having me for dinner tonight

Observant readers will remember that I wrote about Carney late last year. It seems as if front man Reeve Carney will be playing the lead role in the Spider-Man musical.

I find it quite offensive that Bono and Glen Berger read this blog but haven's as much as credited me for putting them on to Carney.

I wish I still had my Bono doll so that I could go medieval on that ass. Voodoo U!

PS The title of this post is related to an earlier post including a reference to Paris. First 10 to comment with the correct explanation win.

PJ is back

It's true. She's back. She just looks different and has changed her name.

drive by killing

Band names can be incredibly fun to laugh at, and one of my favorite drinking games includes exchanging one part of a band name for another word. Like Horse. Horse is good. UHorse. The Horse. The Horses. You get the point.

I recently, thanks to new acquaintance Clabbe, discovered the Drive by Truckers. I might have done so earlier hadn't it been for the ridiculous name.
